Since publishing my original post about using the Peloton App without the Peloton bike, I frequently get asked where to place the Wahoo Speed Sensor on my Sunny spin bike. And how to set the proper circumference.
This is how to do it…
1 – Place the Wahoo Speed Sensor on your spin bike
It was simple. First, I placed the Wahoo Speed Sensor on the outside of the front wheel so that it would get the most rotation. It was an easy setup. I used a video I found on YouTube as guidance – “Garmin Speed Sensor Review + Spin Bike/Trainer/Indoor Setup”.
Here the link to the video guidance: https://youtu.be/F6Cv0bL3M98
The photo below shows how the Wahoo Speed Sensor looks after it was installed on my spin bike.
2 – Setting the Right Circumference
Second, for circumference, I used the Wahoo Tire Size conversion Chart and set it to 1.34 within the Wahoo App. (download the Wahoo Tire Size Chart PDF)
You can use the Wahoo sensors along with the Peloton App with almost any spin bike.
I hope that this helps!
Happy Spinning!
Beth

Does it record accurate the speed if it’s installed liked this ?
How did you knew the size of your weightwheel ?
Hi Adrian,
I wrote a post on that very subject:
Peloton App and Wahoo Speed Sensor

How did you know the size of your wheel? Did you measure it from the edge of where you placed your speed sensor? Or did you measure from the rim?
Hi Sian,
Not silly at all. I followed the tutorial in the YouTube video that I posted. Are you loving the Peloton App?
Happy spinning,
Beth
I am setting everything up and want to be completed before I start my first class. I appreciate your blogs and videos. I have relied on them from the beginning, idea to execution. So thanks for saving me a bunch of money. One question. When setting up the Wahoo speed sensor, the app does not give me the option for wheel circumference. Is that something I have to worry about or not? Also, I downloaded the PTON app on my tv thru a streaming device. I am hoping that once I start spinning, I will get the option to link… Read more »
Hi Willie,
I was able to set my circumference using this method: Peloton App, Speed and Circumference.
Happy spinning,
Beth
Thank you. It showed up after I stared pedaling.
Hi, wahoo have told me that the speed sensor will not work if mounted horizontally on my spin bike? I already returned the Garmin version as it wouldn’t wake up going round in that fashion. Is yours actually working mounted this way?? Cheers
Hi Mark,
Yes, mine works perfectly. No issues.
Happy spinning!

Hey, there! Thank you for all of this helpful information. Does your speed sensor (while connected to your Sunny indoor bike) show an accurate distance you’ve cycled? It’s driving me crazy not knowing how far I’ve cycled after a Peloton class. Thank you!
Hi Pauli’s,
I think it’s get accurate but others have their doubts!
Happy spinning!

Hello my name is Mike. As per the way the wahoo speed sensor goes on an actual bike wheel, I’m wondering how it would be accurate. Then again you said that you changed the wheel size in Wahoo’s app. Although I placed it this way while using Zwift I’m not sure it’s reading correctly.
Hi Mike,
Happy New Year!
I am not familiar with Zwift. I followed this tutorial when placing the Speed Sensor and followed Wahoo’s instruction set the circumference to 1.34.
I hope that this helps!
Happy spinning!
